Chair Turnings

My Mission

My mission is to create the highest quality production turnings available. They have sharp crisp details nice flowing lines and great proportions. I would like chair makers to have a variety of styles to choose from to make their chairs with turnings of custom quality at an affordable price. I will be stocking several different legs styles stretchers and arm posts along with turned spindles .This will allow chair makers to create their own style of chair and diversify themselves from other makers. In the 18th Century each region had their own style of leg and in today’s Antique world you can usually tell where a chair was made by the turnings, always with an overlap in bordering towns. For example I will be stocking Baluster legs in turning styles found in Philadelphia, Rhode Island and New York City I will be stocking most turnings in maple, oak and cherry.

I’ve been making chairs for 14 years and have close relationships with several premier antique dealers in Eastern Connecticut. Having had the opportunity to see and touch many great antique Windsor’s, I’ve incorporated many of the best features I’ve seen in my designs .Please take the time to look through the turnings and see if there is some you like. All turnings are turned sanded and inspected by me personally before being stocked in inventory. If for any reason you get turnings you’re not satisfied with I will replace them with a new one. Please call or e-mail with any questions I would be glad to talk. If you have a design of your own in mind custom runs are available, also ask about large quantity discounts.

The turnings are sold by the piece in grouped quantities or by the set, all quantities over one having a discount. This way you can buy only what you need to make a particular chair and not buy unnecessary parts. I welcome any comments or suggestions.

Thank you for your interest fellow chair makers,
Shawn Murphy
